Gone For Good?

Please say it isn't so!

We hear one of our favorite newbies from last season is leaving NYC...for good.

That's right, one of the most popular new players from last season is heading south. Perhaps cold winters, and maybe even colder boys, are the reason he's heading for sunny South Beach?

Well whatever the reason, we hope he comes back to the Tony Dapolito Rec Center to say hello to old friends every now and again.

We are going to totally miss Edwin. He was an amazing flip-cup player, and quite the handsome devil. We guess another cute one bites the dust. xoxo

I Ain't One To Gossip 1-27

Which dodgeballer may be hiding a little secret? Apparently not everyone is as single as they may appear. In fact, some people may not be coming to the after parties for just the flip-cup. They are looking for a little loving when they can't get any at home, and they almost always get what they want. Sounds like our kind of people. xoxo

Specalatin'

So we here at gossipgays always try to keep up with the ever changing trends, so we have introduced a new column, called Specalatin', where we try to guess what the kids are up to these days.

Today's trend we would like to touch upon are Rain Boots. I mean we all have to have them since it's the north east and it rains all the time and all year long right? We saw a couple pairs at Duplex on Monday, like Norman's, and we were loving them.

As you can see they come in all kinds of colors, shapes, and sizes. Also certain rain boots sometimes can be versatile, men or women could wear them and no one would know! I mean, don't get us wrong. We aren't going to wear pink polka dot ones, but we like they versatile just like us!

Our favorites this season are a classic pair of Burberry Plaid rainboots. Can't go wrong with a classic, right? xoxo

The Second Time Around...

It was the second open play of the new year and while it wasn't nearly as crowded as the first open play of 2009, 40 something people is still a lot of people. Let us tell you those open plays in the front of the gym get hectic with 15 people on each side.

While some of those dodgeballers were on their best behavior, there was still a newbie who got socked in the face with a ball. Glasses flew off, the whole deal. When will people learn not to wear glasses when you play? They invented something called contacts for a reason!

We also are loving the nametags, because when we see someone who is cute, we now know their name right off the bat. And let us tell you, there are some hot boys and girls coming to the open plays. We don't care how they find out about it, but keep coming.

The after party was held at Duplex, and sadly Poppi wasn't behind the bar. Although now that we think about it maybe it was a good thing since we had to work in the morning and every time she is behind the bar, we barely remember getting home.

On a side note, Chris M. had a sleeve of temporary pirate tattoos that we love love loved. It was genius, and looks like it took a hell of a long time to put on. We marvel she had the patience to put them all on, but once it was done, it was simply stunning.

There was a Wii to keep us occupied instead of the usual game of flip cup, not that we minded. I mean it's probably better to get to know your dodgeball tricks before you go home with them. Or so we keep hearing. xoxo

Spotted: Harness Edition

Are harnesses in for Spring '09? If you remember the last time we attended WOOF! at View Bar, we saw a certain someone modeling the harness collection for the bar patrons. Well it turns out somebody else took it a step further.

We hear a certain vet not only got to sample the goods, but they took them home! That's right, and damn did he fill out those suspenders. We secretly think he has watched every season of Top Model, because dude struck a fierce pose with just a couple of leather straps for inspiration. He's way better at posing than Marjorie.

Too bad we can't see it from the back, we are sure he totally filled that out as well. xoxo

Open Play: Part Deux

So Monday night's Open Play was a success (135 people!). Due to the great turnout, they're doing it all over again for the next two weeks, so mark your calendars for Jan. 19 and 26th. BAD! Hall of Shame

Recently Monica Seles was awarded the highest of honors by being inducted into International Tennis Hall of Fame, because apparently two hands and a grunt gets you into the Tennis Hall of Fame.

All of this got us to thinking. Should BAD! have their own Hall of Fame, or more so, Hall of Shame? Should their league's Monica, we guess the name comes from the uncanny two handed throw usually accompanied by a grunt, be the first inductee?

Perhaps there are other viable candidates like the hard throwing Kelly or the best catchers in the league, Sergio and V, could also be inductees in this new venture?

We want to know what you think; who you would induct into the Hall of Shame? Does a two handed throw and a grunt really get someone into it? xoxo

Seles leads '09 Hall of Fame class

NEWPORT, R.I. -- For all her success -- nine Grand Slam titles and a riveting game marked by a trademark grunt -- Monica Seles does not dwell on might have been if not for that ghastly day in Germany in 1993.

"I try not to ask myself those questions because there are really no answers to it," she said.
Seles was elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Thursday, honored for a career in which she won 53 singles titles, including four at the Australian Open, three at the French Open and two at the U.S. Open.

"It was just a lot of highs and a lot of lows," she said during a conference call. "One of the things that always kept me going was my love of the game."

Known for her two-tone grunts and two-handed swings, Seles first rose to No. 1 in 1991. She was 17, at the time the youngest woman to have topped the rankings. By the time she was 19, Seles had already won eight majors.

But in April 1993, at the height of her success, she was stabbed in the back during a changeover at a tournament in Hamburg. A man reached over a courtside railing and knifed her, leaving an inch-deep slit between her shoulder blades....

Out in the Open

Technically the dodgeball season hasn't officially started, but BAD! had their first night of open play on Monday, and apparently LOTS of people showed up to the Tony Dapolito center. Over 120 people came to try out and play, which is more people than were in the whole league last season.

To say the gym was full would be an understatement. To say that there were a lot of hot newbies would also be an understatement. There were so many hot boys, even the locker room felt crowded (not that we were complaining).

The new executive board at BAD! (Paul the Commissioner, Weeks, Sanchez, V, and Jess) ran the show, and with 14 teams playing, there was definately a little down time. The open play in the front gym was fun, and a tad chaotic, but when some poor unsuspecting girl caught one of Monica's torpedo throws, well we haven't heard that much cheering since Madonna's concert last summer!

We loved seeing some of our old favorites vets (Norman, Niki, PTW, Molly, RJ and Thom) and some of old favorite newbies (Scott C., Scott E., Kelly). Techincally they aren't newbies any more, they have officially joined the ranks of the vets in our books.

The after party was held at Stonewall and the flip cup game was on. The crowd was not as hectic as it was at the gym, so that meant more time for flip cup! It was like we had never left. There was double fisting and dancing at the table, but we guess the real action was happening off the table!

There was a group of some veteran boys who decided to play the age old game of "who has the bigger balls" literally. One by one they whipped out their sacks and compared to see who was 'bigger'. We just hope no one was taking steroids because we all have heard the old wives tales about what happens to your balls when you are on it. The most shocking part of the whole experience was the people who had the biggest and smallest were ironically on the same team last season.

Also there was some arm wrestling going on in the corner, and of course we had to watch. Jen the Gladiator was taking girls down left and right. You would think girls would learn that if she is tough enough to compete on "American Gladiators", she could probably kick your ass in arm wrestling.

The after after party continued at Woof! but we had to call it a night. It is only the first open play of the year! All in all a good time, and we hear there are more open plays this month. Although at the next afterparty we totally plan on winning the "who has the bigger balls" competition. xoxo

Just the Beginning?

So this is the way you dodgeballers left poor old Stonewall after your open play? I bet that bar didn't know what it was getting into when it said you could come after your open play, which by the way we heard was ridic (how many newbies showed up again?). So while we nurse our first hangover of the season (damn you Tuesday mornings), let us know if you saw anything scandalous last night. Email us at BADgossipgays@gmail.com.

On The Fringe!

While we were in hibernation for the holidays, we caught up on A LOT of DVR. While some of it was complete garbage (do you have to sleep with BOTH Ikki twins to get A Shot At Love or just an STD?), we happened to find a diamond in the rough on Fox.

We love everything J.J. Abrams touches, but we happened to take a special liking to what could be our favorite new show of the fall, Fringe. We like it even more because when we were about half way through the season we got deja-vu when we saw a hot familiar face at the beginning of an episode.

Yup those glaring glances and stern scientific looks belong to none other than Scott E., one of our newbie crushes from last season! He played on the Splash team, and they took 1st in the league last season. Quite the fierce competitor, we love that Scott is working it on and off the court.

We also heard that he was mentioned in an interview in The Advocate. Guess it's just a matter of time before we say, "We totally hooked up with that guy in the back of Gym Bar!" xoxo

The Wait Is On!

Wow. Registration for the Spring Season '09 of B.A.D! is already full. Wait, when did that happen? I feel like it was yesterday we were losing our shirt in Strip Cup at Gym Bar.

Did you not sign up for the new season either? Well it looks like you can join gossipgays while we try to get on the Wait List. Did you sign up and not pay? Scared you won't be at the Tony Dapolito Center on Monday nights come February?

Well send an email here: league@bigappledodgeball.com and make sure you are still registered, otherwise you better not cut us in the Wait List line, because we call you out. xoxo

UPDATE: Due to the overwhelming response, BAD! decided to expand the league.
This means you still have time to register for the Spring 2009 season.
So, you wanna play?
Then register here now. Yes, it's as simple as that -- just FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS! Once you have submitted BOTH your waiver and payment, you'll receive a confirmation email. The Spring season is scheduled to start in late February.
