What are your statements based on? Do you even know me? One person is saying they stay so far away from me they dont even know my "nickname" (which is known by people I've never even spoken to) but they know the deep inner workings of my pysche and how insecure I am. The other is stating about how I "love to be the center of attention"... really? REALLY? Again I ask do you even know me? Being the center of attention is last thing that I am concerned about.
And further more why does anything I do matter to you? If I'm such a horrible person why would you even concern yourself me and my actions?
As far as I'm concern this thread is done... make all the replies you want cause it's really not that serious, and it's no longer a course of concern for me.
I joined this league for two major reasons. The first is that I really love to play dodgeball. The second is that after playing one Open Play during the summer, I walked away with a really great feeling that I had found a community of really interesting unique individuals that I could potentially call "my community". I see now that perhaps I was jumping the gun.
What I've noticed since playing every Monday for the past 3 or 4 months is that from the outside, BAD looks like a great environment with cool people to get to know and spend time with. But even now, having played at the same gym, with the same people for 3 to 4 months, I'm still on the outside.
As GROWN adults, we should be practicing better etiquette that makes the dodgeball space more welcoming for our new/returning members. I say that I feel like I'm on the outside still because out of the 60-some players that I've encountered, only a handful have been genuinely friendly and inviting to me. I'm not saying that everyone has to try and be best friends. But there is a certain amount of mutual respect that has been replaced with two-faced, shady behavior. For example, laughing at players when they fall or stumble because they're physically different from us is not acceptable. I've sat on the sidelines and heard countless groups and individuals snicker and cackle watching one of the best catchers in the league fall over. Or making sexist misogynistic comments about the female bodied/ female identified players in the league. First, don't assume anyone's gender identity. Second, they are not bad players who way down a team.
But what I really wanted to address is what has been displayed in this forum. Although the subject matter is the "hottest newbie" in the league, that does not give anyone the right to voice the "ugliest" or "most unattractive" person in the league. Making statements that the opinion is in fact "objective" is fallacious. Someone on here said it very well so I'll quote: "If you don't have anything nice to say you should keep your mouth shut." You may feel that Steve O and Eric James, who are both really great individuals, are not attractive and that's fine. But what gives you the right to use the forum to bad mouth and put down another human being? Another fellow dodgeballer? Clearly you're expressing your own negative feelings towards them in a very uncalled for and coward-ess way.
Anonymity is great for maintaining a playful sense of secrecy. But when you choose to cross the line, you should man up and stand behind your words. Hiding behind a screen is childish and cowardly. This forum should not be about talking shit about other players, but if it happens then you, anyone who has the nerve to make such foul and egregious statements, should claim what you say.
I just wanted to put in my two cents, not to attack anyone, but to give the perspective of someone new to the league. I just hope that we all can digress from this high school state of mind and realize that this repetitive shit talking every week here, at the gym, and at the after parties is low and uncalled for and, hopefully, comes to an end.
Typical - Society will only lift it's self high enough so that it is able to begin to tear it down again.

I hope no one takes this seriously. In the end, you are still yourself. You may feel better or worse based on what others say here. But that doesn't change the fact who you are.
Is it that important to be hot in others eyes? Does that guarantee you'll live a happy life? Does that mean you're a respectful person? You'll never grow younger, and beauty may fade. But you can always try to be wiser and a better man.

Josh, we are all adults. Some adults are "nice" and some adults, like myself, enjoy to giggle at another adult's expense. Call me a bitch but it is true. I am sorry if you joined this league thinking that everyone would feel the same as you.
I think that some toughening up, both here in these forums, and on the court wouldn't hurt anybody.
So I've been watching this religiously for the past few days, running into my roommates room to read her any passages that call me a troll or say that if someone makes out with me I might turn into a prince. It feels like I'm living in a teen movie, like Clueless or Jawbreaker, which has always been a dream of mine, so thank you anonymous person.
For the people, like Dear Steve, who seem worried about me, thank you but I'm quite splendid over here. I've never based much of my self worth on being hot and if I got really upset that some person said mean things about me on a message board, I think I would have greater problems to deal with than the fact that I was called a troll. For the record, I missed on Monday because I had rehearsal, not because of hurt feelings.

No, this is LIFE! Dodgeball is the best metaphor for life ever. I'll illuminate:
In dodgeball, as in life, you start out with exactly six people (My mommy, daddy, sister, brother and Uncle Louis who makes me cry) standing with you.
Against you are aligned six other people (Mr. and Mrs. Garcia and their husky son Lionel from across the street, plus Erika, Anon 6:27, and Marlo Thomas).
You throw balls at (host parties for) the other side, and try to dodge their balls (their parties are stupid). If you get hit, you're out (you die). Unless someone catches a ball (calls EMT), and brings you back (could also be like in a seance or Pet Sematary or reincarnation or it was your mysterious twin who really died and not you).
So let's not trifle with dodgeball, friends; it's equal to or more important than life.
I wish the positive comments got nearly as much attention and stirred as much emotion as a little negativity did here. It looks like the bloggers got just what they aimed for by picking people out and throwing a little mud.
It brought some sort of entertainment to a mundane life. Its entertained mine and the rest of the otherwise quiet readers too. So all in all, they did their job with their catty comments, and brought a little "flair" to the room. Please people, this is basically highschool. Expect some cattiness and such, but as it was in highschool, its all talk. We are really a fun group of people. I admit it is hard to break into the social circles. This is my second season and I'm just now starting to feel like the "in" crowd.
I still wouldn't mind sitting at the table with the newbies though.

This thread is ridiculous. I'm very disappointed in all the negative and hurtful comments people are putting on here. I actually suspect that those people aren't even dodgeballers.
BAD! is a social fun league. We are like a big family and while you don't have to like everyone, you should treat everyone with basic courtesy and respect.
Members found harassing, threatening, or in general acting inappropriately to other members will be kicked out of the league. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
At the same time, Cool Beans, we are a family and sometimes people in your family are bitches. That doesn't mean you kick them out of the family. My sister was a huge bitch to me for years and now we're really close. It would have been a huge loss if I had cut her out of my life, and she said much worse things to me than the anonymous fellow on this board said.
I wouldn't kick people out of the league for being mean on a message board. Threatening and continued harassment is a different story, of course. Maybe our anonymous friends can learn something from the majority of people in this league who are really awesome. If you kick people out because they wronged you, you don't give them the chance to realize how wrong they were.

I agree with Steve O, especially since the Code of Conduct says nothing about discussions on Gossip Gays, nor does it ever mention Gossip Gays at all. The only grounds for expulsion without refund seem to apply to conduct in the gym:
In the gym, any player who deliberately tries to harm or intimidate another player through the use of force, threatening language or verbal threats will be subject to league consequences including warnings, suspensions, and expulsions of the player from the league without any refund of his or her paid player fee.
