The Eagle Has Landed

They said no one could beat them and for 11 weeks they were right. Although last night XES took down the mighty Eagle Team to make sure they didn't go the whole season undefeated. It was star players Symmes vs. Eduardo in a showdown that was surely brewing behind the scenes. We have the whole video of Game 3 (after both teams each won a game) and you can tell the game came down to the very end with Symmes making 2 amazing catches with less than 30 seconds on the clock. Although we don't know who was happier: Symmes or the guy behind the camera. xoxo

Easy. We never said no one could beat us.

Yeah you did. First week.

Shit, that was an awesome game! Mad props to the camera man who caught this epic moment!

Yea slow your roll... we never said no one could beat us. We just happened to have not lost a game up to that point.

It was a great game and XES played extremely well.

Not to take the attention off of eduardo's bobblehead, but someone had to get stitches last night due to dodgeball related injuries. The gossip gay writers need to change the topics up a bit. Tired of chris and eduardo.

There is a video for this particular post. Do you have a video of the bleeding stitchee?

Rather than complaining, why don't you just tell us what happened?

@5:39

Preach.

HO-H0-H0 look what i just found:

Eduardo Osorio: Esther, I have a question, which actually I will bring to the refs as well. Tell me if I'm wrong but this video shows the game started at 0:15 and finished at 4:30, am I correct? Something is wrong with the refs watches.

Anonymous said...

That is actually a very good point. However, it just adds to ALL the shitty and stupid things that have gone down this season. I think we all have a laundry list of bad calls/mistakes, etc. etc.

It's Monday night gay dodgeball, not the world cup.

Chris' jump catch was sick.

The entire match was pretty ridiculous. Really great play on everyones part.

Ugly Betty said...

Maybe Eduardo should stop worrying about the ref's watches and more about the fact that we're repeating which teams we play.

Chance said...

Betty makes a good point, especially since we had a canceled week. each team has 2 teams they haven't played yet. Or at least we do. im too lazy to check other teams but i would assume if we do all the other teams do as well.

Eduardo just handles reffing stuff. Talk to Vanessa and the rest of the board about scheduling.

Vanessa said...

Check www.bigappledodgeball.com at the end of the week and you'll see when we'll be making up that elusive Week 5. Then all teams will have played each other at least once.

Chance said...

And in comes Vanessa with good news.

Carrie 2.0 said...

I always associate Vanessa with good news.

jerry said...

ummm...can we get some pics of these nominees for hottest newbies?? i have no idea who more than half of these guys are.

Eduardo Osorio said...

1) What's wrong Ugly Betty? You are supposed to be smart if you wanna own that nickname. Of course we were going to repeat playing teams since there are 18 teams and 12 weeks of play (remember we play two teams every Monday night).

2) I do the scheduling too. Once we play week 5 and week 11, all teams must have played all other teams at least once. Check the official site at the end of the week to see the updates.

Eduardo Osorio said...

ooops, didn't see your reply V.

Anonymous said...

@Anon 1:18AM. Eagle should ask for rematch. That was fucked up.

Vanessa said...

Yeah, that's right, you should always associate me with good news! Drinks on me at the next afterparty!!

Vanessa said...

I believe my screenname doppelganger meant to say: "Feel free to buy me a drink at the next after-party." ;)

Hmmm, how funny that The Eagle was playing in the back court when they lost their first game of the season. They seem to play a lot of games in the front court if memory serves me correctly....who does the scheduling again?

Eduardo Osorio said...

Yep, I repeat, I did the schedulling. Here's what you are wondering... Back/Front court stats for team Eagle:

Week 1 - Front, Front
Week 2 - Front, Back
Week 3 - Back, Back
Week 4 - Front, Front
Week 5 - Front, Front
Week 6 - Back, Back
Week 7 - Front, Back
Week 8 - Back, Front
Week 9 - Front, Back
Week 10 - Back, Back
Week 11 - Front, Back

Time to check your memory bud. I'm glad I don't have much work today :) What else?

Yes, I thought the games were supposed to be 5 minutes long. Clearly, this game and the preceding games fell short of that 5 minute mark.

There have been multiple issues with the officiating this season in my opinion, along with every other season. That's not going to change. They cannot see everything. Fortunately for my team, we were on the lucky side of the timing error - an issue which by the way, was in niether XES or Eagle's hands.

However, there is such a thing called sportsmanship and integrity. Countless number of times this season, I have seen people blatantly get hit with a ball, or act like their ball was not caught, yet not retreat to the sidelines because the ref didn't see it.

Bottom line, in the end, hopefully all the bad calls even out. That being said, I would rather lose fairly, than win by cheating.

Luvs you Eduardo!!

more importantly....i guess no pics of these newbies :)

It takes many after games to meet them all. You should come out more often ;)

As I watch the video all I can do is feel sorry for Chris because he takes recreational gay dodgeball so seriously. The pulling up of the shorts, the double knee brace (which any athlete w a knee injury will tell you is useless), the stretching before the games, the celebratory howl of pseudo-masculinity at the end, and just generally his air of self-importance all make me terribly terribly sad. The fawning over him by his "fans" on this site only fuel the arrogance, i imagine.

Congrats on winning a single match of gay dodgeball XES. Being "good" at dogdgeball is among the most useless skills an adult can have. You are the kings of the smallest little castle.

Anonymous said...

You know what skill is even more useless than dodgeball? Pointless cuntery.

Those of us who joined this sports league are not surprised to find that the participants actually try to be good at sports. People do celebrate audibly, regardless of gender identities and sexual expressions.

Those of us who play sports enjoy a fair game. We don't mind losing if we lose fair. Anyone who has ever beaten Chris at any sport knows he ends with a smile in defeat.

I'm sure you're prepared to say that I'm part of the fawning "fans," and I guess it's true. Not because he's attractive, but because he's a good guy who combines his competitiveness with good sportsmanship.

As for the refs... Reffing is a challenge, especially officiating your friends. Anyone who has been in the league for the last few years will agree that the reffing this season is the best it has ever been. Sure, there are inconsistencies and problems, but it's better than before. Next season will be even better.

It's true, it's just gay dodgeball. So I vote we all enjoy this passtime by trying our best, celebrating when we win, and shaking hands either way.

A ref said...

I dont think good sportsmanship is complaining at nearly every single one of your games about our calls. Good sportsmanship is also not complaining about the calls after the game, before the game and on this website. Its particularly rich to have such a person then go on a lengthy soapbox about how sportsmanlike the other players should all be (and by implication, are not). Let us refs do our jobs, chris, and stop complaining all the time.

Strange Bird said...

It seems that as this league is as I've always heard 50% competitive and 50% social, there should be some athleticism in the mix. Grunting and stretching and striving to be good at something whether it be the little castle of dodgeball or an Olympic medal is a good show of wanting to succeed. Just because some of you cunts feel its solely a frivolous game, many of us wish to be the best we can at the endeavors in which we partake.
Perhaps a little more howling on the courts would compensate for the bellyaching you are doing on GG. If the sportiness of it is a bit too much for you, there are always the after-parties that do not require having played that evening. You are still welcomed there, whether you are a cunt or not. Usually, cuntiness is encouraged.
And further to the refs, I've never seen sport that didn't have bad calls, or people complaining about them. We may harp on it a bit much; however, as a team captains some of us feel obligated to do it. I do not recall any of my team waxing on about it to anyone, as it is my place. I take the burden for being a pest, but it at least keeps everyone paying attention. I feel this season’s ref's are leagues above some of last seasons. We appreciate you all, even if we cannot always agree. Do not feel your best efforts aren't appreciated.

Bob - Oh. No. You. Didn't.

I like it when Chris hikes up his shorts, I like it when he stretches and I LOVE it when he howls.

AOHHOHHHHHH - he's a she-wolf!

Marry me!!!

Fish Fan said...

I'm with Symmes Fan -- the howling is hot!

You know who else howles and it's really hot?

Scott E :-)

The whole place echoes? Or perhaps the echo is only in my heart...

And howler monkeys. That's why I spend so much time in the Costa Rican rain forest--dodgeball.

so i am a newbie and have been reading the blog for a while... i dont know why ppl make scuh a fuss over it its a blog.. i only ask for something more jucy than bad calls by refs and who takes something fun too seriously if ppl "get hurt" over that or anything like this dont read it... its for fun.. isnt that why we are here in the first place?.

cyre2067 said...

@Anon 1:40 - HAHAHAHAHAHA nice opener.

@bob - some of us stretch because we like to avoid injury. It's the easiest way to do so, and it helps improve your game. Maybe you should give it a try.

Howling is hot. Duh.

As for the refs, I <3 Nick F. He can rescue me from a burning building anytime.

I believe the refs are doing the best that they can in a very fast moving game at times. So, it is inevitable that some calls will be missed. However, the timing error is just simple carelessness; and it wasn't just a few seconds, it was a considerable amount of time in both games on film. 45 seconds can easily change the outcome of a game.

Hopefully the refs will be much more conscientious with the timer moving forward.

This is amazing. Light reading on a Thursday morning.... and by "light", i mean JESUS. Paragraphs everyone?? Yikes.

Fish Fan-- you crack me up.
Chris Symmes-- i love you.
Vanessa-- yum.
Eduardo-- don't feed into the silly comments.
Refs-- you do a better job than anyone else could-- without replays or eyes on the sides of your heads, there's no way you could see everything.

Spenc said...

Do y'all remember how bad the refs were LAST season?!

I say god bless the refs. You're all bitches on the court (wink face) and they still manage to stay our friends. I'd say we're pretty goddamned lucky!
